From John Rickenbacher; Local Network Coordinator in Port Angeles, Washington:

On Being Courteous in Host Homes

1. BE POLITE!!! Please and thank you all the way … your best behavior
2. Don't whisper or carry on inside jokes between you and other team members in front of hosts.
3. Limit bathroom time. Get in - Get out. Clean up after yourself.
4. Do not look through host's personal belongings, cupboards, medicine cabinets, etc. Ask where to find things.
5. Eat what is offered with a grateful attitude.
6. Be conscious of host's bed time. Be quiet and go to sleep. This is not a week long slumber party.
7. Respect their schedule in the AM. Find out what time they get up, when you can use the shower that won't interfere with their needs. Be flexible.
8. On calling home: if you need to use the phone, use a calling card or call collect and be sure your host knows that. If they insist that you call on their dime, keep it short. Even if you're paying for it, keep it short.
9. Keep your area and things tidy. Keep your things in your bag and bedding make or folded up. Clean up after yourself in the bathroom and in the kitchen.
10. Offer to help when it seems appropriate. Remember you are there to serve, not be served.
